History

Nannerch, 1997
This was my first race on a ‘true’ singlespeed as opposed to the bodged up (chain tensioned) GT or cylco-cross bike I’d been riding until then. A borrow of “Uncle Tufty”, running a frankly silly 34:16 gearing at Nannerch in North Wales in 1997. Check out those thighs!

Storm In A Teacup

A whole shitstorm has kicked off over on MTBR here and here (careful - it’s slow as slow thing these days), about the SSWC08.
Looks like Curtiss et al did a great job of weeding out the undesirables to me. Some of the comments being thrown their way are clear indications that the protaginists are the […]

SSUK 2008 Registration Open

Well, actually registration for SSUK 08 has been open since afore Xmas, but it doesn’t yet contain a big message saying “Fuck Off We’re Full” so I’m guessing spaces are still available.

cos Tourists Are Money

My own experiences with fixed gear are distinctly tourist. Pre-marriage days I wanted something for the 20 mile winter commute. Fitting 700c wheels into a singlespeed frame was simple enough. A calliper brake in the Kona Project 2s easily reached the rim for front-brakeage. The back wasn’t so simple. The rear seatstay bridge wasn’t drilled […]

Really No Langsters

Langster London - Now Sold Out
Further to our original remarks on the silliness Specialized may have underestimated the popularity of the Langster we tried to buy one. As my wife’s first choice, the Seattle wasn’t available she was happy to take a London. Now our local bike shop is ringing round the UK trying to […]

Lovely paintjob. Think Paisley/Yellow Submarine/Hendrix.

It’s all gone Harley-Davidson

We spotted a belt drive Orange P7 singlespeed being ridden round Mountain Mayhem. Looks like another company might be the first to bring it to market though. Apparently
Spot have adopted a carbon drive system for next year.
If it works for the massive power and can cope with the torque pulses of Milwaukees finest then I’m […]

Wot No Langster?

Langster Chicago
Someone at Specialized has a sense of humour and someone in power at Specialized has let them play it out on their Langster singlespeed fixie. Well, how else do you explain the quirky ‘city’ models, each one playfully decorated for it’s target audience.
The Boston plays on the Ivy League image of the city; The […]
