Over to Calderdale to gatecrash Chipps’ 40th birthday I was pleasantly surprised by my fitness this weekend. Usually a trip to the valley is a chance to ride the latest Singletrack test bike. Last time I ended up on the very nice but wibbily-forked Kona Hei Hei. Nice, but I […]

Riding Into Cumbrian Weather
If ever I needed a reason to put the Turner Burner back together then this is it.
Though all this girly talk of .gpx and .trl files smacks of emasculated navigation by GPS bollocks.

After a scorching hot fifty-miler out into roadie training territory yesterday (a ride round one of the favourite loops of pretty much all the local racing clubs and the more-distant CTC branches) I was wondering about the ettiquette of arm-warmers.
Or more precisely, when can you dispense with them? And the knee warmers and overshoes. The […]

24 April was the 75th anniversyary of the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass.
I would have gone out and ridden cheeky on the day but my plans for a day off work were scuppered by, well, work. And we don’t talk about work here so we’ll say no more.
Anyway, two days late I rode out to the […]

Intervals (shush!) have revealed that I currently have more fitness than Kirsty.
So today, with a ten mile trip to the stables in the offing, things needed evening out. As we only have two properly road suitable bikes - the Lemond and the Pompino - she could have opted for gears. But, fickle thing that she […]

I can report that the North Face Trail at Grizedale has just recently achieved XC-Jey Boy perfection. The top surface has bedded down nicely. The finer gravel has been washed away, to be replaced by the remnants of pedal reflectors from inappropriate bikes, and the underlying rocks are showing through nicely to add interest to […]

It doesn't update from the wheels of steel though :-)

For all that we like the up-to-the minute offerings of the web there‚s nothing like a proper badly photocopied A5 fanzine or a glossily printed proper magazine to keep you occupied on the throne. Here, in no particular order, is our material of choice.
