BMI, Baby

Although I’ve not lost any weight in the last six weeks I’ve knocked my BMI down to just 24.3, for my height my BMI is that of someone a full 20lbs lighter.
I am now officially ‘heavy’ rather than overweight.

Increasing Dord*

Swimming - Not That Bad Really
Like millions of others I fell into the “must get rid of the Xmas bloat” trap this year.
After my lowest mileage year since records began** I was more than I’m a stone overweight, my BMI was up at 27, I’d had a dose of flu that has left my asthmatic […]

The UCI Needs to Get It’s Act Together Too

While targetting the “Men in Black” Anne Gripper, director of the UCI’s anti-doping program made a statement that appeared to respect the process for dope-testing.
“we have to respect the process, the analysis of the B samples, before we can make any announcements.”

Sadly, that all goes […]

Disappointed But Not Surprised

My wife and I (grammer) had been commenting on how this tour resembled those of the 80s and early 90s than any after, say, 1995. A proper duel between climbers and not something that is going to be decided entirely by time trials.
Lots of riders just didn’t seem to be doing as well as they […]

Not Training is Good For You

Inspired by recent stabbing chest pains I made an appointment to see doctors.
Cue the usual tests in the docs office - blood pressure, sharp intake of breath as cold stethoscope applied to moobs, pokes in the ribs etc.
ECG and blood tests cued up, and I’ve to keep an asthma diary. Blood tests took […]

Pick a number, any number

Caution - Drug Use Ahead
With all the drug confessions rampant at the moment it’s probably as good a way of telling who should have won a race in the ’90s as any other.
“My yellow jersey is in box at home, you can come and collect it,” said Riis of his [1996] Tour performance.

I Hate Boardwalk

I can report that the North Face Trail at Grizedale has just recently achieved XC-Jey Boy perfection. The top surface has bedded down nicely. The finer gravel has been washed away, to be replaced by the remnants of pedal reflectors from inappropriate bikes, and the underlying rocks are showing through nicely to add interest to […]

Testosterone Patches - The Tests

Chainsaw Panda has bravely undertaken some trials for us into the effectiveness of testosterone patches.
The results are rather scary.

Sprains Suck

While walking the dogs in the dark on Friday night at Twentyfour12 I tripped in a hole and twisted my left ankle pretty bad.
It didn’t hurt during the race, and it’s not stopped me riding, but it’s now really really started to niggle.
I pulled my yard boots off the other day and with the swelling […]

Milestone

Turns out Sundays ride took my mileage for this year past last years pitiful, if excusable, total.
“Wooh!” and indeed “Yeah!” as I imagine excitable Californians might say.
