This from Tom Boonen made me laugh…
Boonen further claimed that Vinokourov was indeed one of the so-called ‘Men in Black’ - a term used to describe professional riders training in plain colours to avoid detection. “I saw him myself, wearing black,” said Boonen.
I’m not sure the “Men In Black” term was meant to be taken literally. After all wearing all black out on a long road ride is guaranteed to make you stick out like a sore thumb amongst all the mismatched pro-team kit and cheap flourescents. You’d have to be really stupid to think it offered a shield of anonymity. The only folk I know who wear black on road bikes are mountain bikers.
My skinny-tyred training rides are now spent in fear of being dragged off my road bike and given an impromptu roadside drug test by the UCI. Hopefully my non-white socks and peak will alert them to my fat tyred tendencies and have the same repulsive effect as garlic on a vampire.
