Scottish Stuff for SSWC Foreigners

Anyone travelling to the SSWC from outside Scotland - which is most everbody - can minimise their CO2 impact and make the most of the trip by hanging around before or after and doing some sightseeing.

Many folk may be tempted to visit the official - I refuse to give the UCI any more weight than a small ‘o’ - World Championships the week after. For those with a more endurance and participatory bent how about staying for a fortnight after SSWC and having a crack at the Raasay Rumble.

A ten hour endurance race sponsored by Skye Brewery sounds better to me than mixing it with a bunch of baggy wearing Linkin Park fans getting excited about the 4X. Old curmudgeon that y’are.

Ample time to mooch your way down the Great Glen, alongside Loch Ness, to Fort William for the uci worlds. Then head North for Glen Shiel and the Highlander set at Eilean Donan. Do the Raasay Rumble, drink the beer. Ride back to Fort William by way of Skye, the Sleat peninsula, over the sea to Skye, sorry, the mainland on the Armadale - Mallaig ferry - bicycles £1.10 - then past the Glenfinnan monument and to Fort William where you can take a train to your next destination or carry on South via the West Highland Way, taking in the Devil’s Staircase, through Glen Coe and past Loch Lomond to Glasgow and airport.

Hmmm, I’m tempted myself.

More Scottish route shennanigans will follow before the SSWC.

I thought the uci champs were after SSWC?

Hey - good job you pointed that out Simon - I’d have been up in Scotland a week late! Post updated…
