Summer’s Here
First off, I’d like to apologise for the resumption of normal service by the British weather. Tempted by the unseasonably long and dry spell I replaced the IRC Mud Mads that grace the Spot with some semi-slicks. The weather didn’t even have the grace to wait until I’d finished before pouring scorn upon my folly. No, I had just seated the tyre beads on the rims before it started to rain..
No matter, there were other chores to perform. In the end I only set off to ride 40 minutes before sunset for a 12 mile loop on my little singlespeed. Chasing daylight I buried myself making it to the top of Great Hill, running where I could not ride. As I finally reached the top of the final climb betwixt glowering clouds and horizon I could see the last sliver of the sun finally wink out. Five miles back to the car, the sun has just set, and I’m wearing sunglasses. Hit it.
Woop! Singlespeeds officially rock, especially little feisty ones with racing tyres pumped up hard.
I made it to the car just as the last of the light faded, and no sooner was I turning the ignition than the heavens opened.
Summer’s here.
