The latest version of iTunes has an “Automatic Album Art” feature.
As long as you have an iTunes Store account, iTunes will automatically fetch available album art for any CD you imported to iTunes.
This feature has turned into a source of amusement.
Sites such as last.fm have developed a way of tagging and tracking music and come up with a very good recommended tunes listing. Once the system has enough of a flavour of what you like it will recommend similar tunes you might not have heard, throwing golden nuggets into the spinning propellors of personal taste. I don’t know about you but this system works for me.
The iTunes Automatic Album Art feature works in a similar way. My Led Zeppelin Library has been tagged with Dread Zeppelin album art. Some critics will no doubt rail against this in the same way that they rail against the inaccuracies in the Gracenote CDDB database. In my case whenever I see strange album art I am inspired to investigate farther, or reminded that I haven’t listened to Dread Zeppelin in a while and maybe now is the time.
