Long Weekend

It’s been a long busy weekend, what with rides and races, so there’s much to catch up on. For the sake of reading I’m going to break it down into manageable chunks.

The weekend started on Thursday last, with an offer to ride the Singletrack Magazine test Turner Flux to give them some 5 Spot/Burner comparisons.

I took the 5 Spot planning to trade with the Flux at various points in the ride, but sadly the Flux wasn’t there. No disappointment though, as the 5 Spot was in it’s element blazing a trail across the moor tops. For all the time I’ve had the 5 Spot this ride was the first one that tested the suspension abilities to the point where I realised that the forks/frame weren’t quite matched. A little tweaking with the rebound damping on the fork and it’s much happier.

After the ride there were drinks in the Stubbing Wharfe and a chance to chat to Brant Richards from On-One, about such stuff as 29ers, naming bikes - very amusing, and Pompinos. Turns out I upset Brant by admitting that I didn’t want to like the Pompino; he didn’t quite read as far as the “from the first time I rode it I loved it” line. How much do I love the Pompino? So much that I’m currently haggling for a 51cm version for Kirsty.

And before I went home I made arrangements to pick up the Flux and take it down to the the Twentyfor12 race. Any excuse not to race the singlespeed solo it seems.

How did I get on? Ah, that will follow…
