Revenge

Some of you may recall that back in February I had a rant about the local road safety partnership, and produced this image of accidents at a local junction:

Yesterday as I cycled home some fool had plonked himself in the advanced cycle lane, reserved for cyclists turning right. Why? Well, this guy is obviously so much more important than those mere mortals in the left hand lane, and incredibly more important than mere cyclists.

So, I used the advanced cycle lane for it’s intended purpose, rode in front of him and stuck my arm out.

Rather unsurprisingly, when the lights changed, I was too slow to cut across the front of traffic heading the other way, and had to sit in the junction with my arm out. Pretty much at the rightmost blue dot on the image above. Conincidentally this allowed traffic in the left hand lane to proceed on their merry way, but unfortunately held up Mr Arrogant-Cock.

So he leant on the horn.

I don’t think he was expecting that I would then dismount, walk back to the car, and ask him who he thought he was for abusing the cycle lane and bullying other “less important” folk.

It was only when I remounted (still blocking his way) that I realised I had an audience. An old boy cycling the other way gave me verbal support. I didn’t just have two wheeled sympathy either. When the lights against onconimg traffic finally turned, and I was finally able to turn right the guy at the head of the queue on the road I turned down gave me a smile and a wink.

See, some of them understand.
