Zoic’s Last Ride

RIP Zoic shorts.

I knew from the state of the arse before I put them on that it was going to be the Zoics last ride. It was confirmed by the ripping sound as I struggled to get my foot through the left leg, and the inbuilt liner finally gave way.
Ten years was a good lifespan. I picked them up in Mill Valley back in 1996, when baggie riding gear was still unusual and even downhillers wore lycra. Zoic never quite had the cache that Swobo achieved, and the only other people I saw wearing their casually styled gear was journos, or their friends.
Their last ride was a fast and furious loop of the North Face Trail. For all that people may rail against man-made trails (and I miss the warm narrow loamy singletrack they all lack) this was a chance for Kirsty and I (grammar) to get out and have a race-pace blast and give the Turners a good thrashing. Woot!
For those that can’t get enough man-made there’s a 16 hour race being held there, the 7eleven, on 17-18 June. I’m looking forward to it already.
Update: Closing date for 7eleven entries is 27 May 2006. Get them in soon. But ovbviously not until I’ve got my entry in OK?
I still kept looking enviously at my old flame, the racier looking Burner. It was funny to hear Kirsty come out with the same lines I used to.
“I am a GOD on this bike”.
“This bike could get you into trouble”.
It was a fitting last ride for the Zoics.
And Kirsty says sorry to the sap that tried to keep up with her in the Zander Zone. Some girls are always going to kick your ass - get over it :-)
