Whores Hustle and Hustlers Whore

I sure hope sponsors of sport are considering how they go about their business and thinking what an opportunity they missed with Shelley Rudman, the woman who was self-funded to Britain’s best medal of the recent Winter Olympics.

While they (and the media) were all looking the other way and throwing money at our useless cricket, football and rugby teams here was someone who was funded to go to the biggest sporting event in the world by the people at her local pub. I hope the folks who plan our sporting TV schedules and the PR guys who look at how to market their companies were suitably embarrased at how they missed out on such an opportunity to get their name known.

In not unrelated news UK 24 Solo racing club are now taking entries and have published a set of rankings.

Because the rankings work on a rolling 24 month system I’m still up there in 16th place, despite a complete lack of results in 2005. You know the reasons for that.

Of course as we work through the year and 2006 results come in I’m not going to improve this position much as 2004 results disappear. Getting an improvement is going to have to wait until the end of 2007. Talk about long term commitment.

So, if any red-faced sponsors out there are still kicking themselves over Shelley Rudman and would like to take advantage of a reasonable UK athlete* to promote their products get in touch. At the moment I owe everything to Tim and Judith at Sideways, my wife, and Visa. Though I don’t think the latter realise this.

For a reasonable fee I’d even moderate my language.

* If you promote a FTSE 100 company you might like to ponder where 16th would put you.
