More Race Entries
Singletrack Magazine announced a couple days ago that the entry forms for SITS, SSMM and EnduroPlus are now out.
Of course I didn’t tell you at the time because I wanted to make sure my entries were in.
SSMM in particular fills up incredibly fast. So fast in fact that Pat Adams keeps an open house the night the entry forms come out in order to receive those couriered to his door. I do wonder how theses teams manage to be so organised that they get all the required signatures in place. Doesn’t Pat get suspicious when the team members all have the surname “Von Cock”?
Solo entries are vetted, which is tough on newcomers with little or no experience now that some of us have double figures of 24 hour races under our belts, and several solo attempts. This means I can be a little more casual about getting my entry in before official close of entries. Phew.
Of course there are the naysayers (usually those who had an entry rejected) who put their nose in the air and say sniffily that such races have sold-out, they’re not what they used to be and why would anyone want to ride the same track for 24 hours, etc etc.
It’s not pretty to watch.
Ten years ago now I was stood in Kielder Forest trying to get warm by the floating campfire at Polaris 10 when the organisers gave special prizes out to all those who had done the first ten events. That has been my inspiration to getting to Mayhem 10. All will have been singlespeed. All bar the first will probably have been completed on my Spot.
Right now all these races seem so far away.
I hope that this year my final preparation is not a week in hospital.
