Post Strathpuffer Ramblings
I realised as I rode through the night, pondering on dR j0n’s near onset of hypothermia that I need a lot less insulation than other people. dR j0n was wearing an extra layer to me and I was fine.
And then I started trying to work out how long I’ve owned my trusty Karrimor vest. And the answer is that I really don’t know. I’ve had it for as long as I remember.
It has no fancy features. It’s just a well cut, no frills piece of kit. A windproof front, full fleece, none of this vented back rubbish. A single pocket that only ever gets used at horse trials for carrying the multi-tool for horses that is an adjustable spanner*.
It must get washed maybe twice a year. In Spring and Autumn I wear it every day for horseriding. When the weather gets cooler it gets worn on every bike ride. It’s just one of those invisible bits of kit. I pick it up from it’s hook by the door and put it on without thinking about it.
It’s so good that I never usually think about it. Which means that whenever I post on those “What’s your best bit of kit” threads I never even remember it.
I’ll make more effort in future.
* studs.
