The World Changes In Small Ways

Over summer I did a fair bit of riding with a BOB trailer.

I noticed that many of the cycling facilities in my area were too short to cope with the increased length.

So what? How many BOB trailers do you see? Fair enough, but I live just yards from a primary school and you DO see lots of trailer bikes and tag-a-longs going to/from this one. If these facilities are too short for me and my BOB they’re too short for them.

So I got in touch with the council about changing the relevant design parameters for cycle facilities within close proximity to primary schools.

I got this response:

I agree that we should be providing for tag alongs and bike trailer combinations in the vicinity of primary schools and will make our safety audit, schools travel plan and highway design teams aware of this.

If they follow this through the world will have changed for the better in one more small way.

Good luck, brah. Hope you don’t need it, but the wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly when they do turn. I applaud your efforts all the same.
