Nothing To See Here, Move Along

Hope Meisters

Singletrack did an interview a couple issues back with Alan from Hope Technology where they claimed to have spares for everything I thought I’d give them a try.

The Dave Yates (as I write being shot blasted at Bob Jacksons) has a front Hope mechanical disk from ‘93 that uses a screw on spider, The spider is cracked.

So when I saw Alan at SITS the other week I asked if he had any spares.

Oooh. Not sure. He might have some but holds out more hope (sorry) for the splined version. He asked me to ring him when we all got home. Now I have a hub for one of those too, but unlike the screw on hub it’s 32 hole not 36. Which wouldn’t match the rear, also 36* hole. I’d also have to dismantle two other wheels to get a pair of matching rims. Lots of trouble.

No faffing required.

I rang Alan earlier this week - he was out at Eurobike last week. I had a return call today confirm that they do have a screw on spider and they’re posting one out.

Since I had my first set of Hope hubs and brakes custom fitted at their old factory back in 1992 (after they were featured in MBi) I’ve always been impressed by their Customer service. Back in the early days if you went and bought spares or parts off them direct instead of through a dealer you also got a free tour of the factory where they’d show you the latest fancy milling machine they’d bought.

This part is one more step on the way to building my Yates up in all it’s period glory.

Top Fellas.

* pretty normal for ‘93, especially when we weren’t sure how the wheels would cope with the torque.

For all that we like the up-to-the minute offerings of the web there‚s nothing like a proper badly photocopied A5 fanzine or a glossily printed proper magazine to keep you occupied on the throne. Here, in no particular order, is our material of choice.
