Bollocks To Branson
As I told yesterday my plan for today was Lunesdale and Morecambe.
Not so any more.
I intended to cut 50 miles off my journey by taking the train from Preston to Lancaster.
According to Virgin, cycle spaces must be reserved. I negotiate the call tree and speak to an advisor. I must book at least two hours from now in order to reserve a place. OK, I’ll take the 12:16. Plenty of time to head up the valley, back to the seafront, and home. Then she says, er, no.
To reserve a space for a bike, in this day and age of instant online booking will take two days because the tickets must be posted out. I want to take the train to be one less car. Not possible on Virgin.
So I put into place Plan B. I call Northern Trains who run the services out to East Lancs. I can turn up and take my chances on a seat being available. Sorted. I’m heading for Burnley instead. While I’m at the station I’ll book tickets to head North on Friday.
It’s not a good morning. I’m kicking myself for not spotting the ford at White Coppice which I could have done non Monday. Damn those OS map boundaries.
Oh well, whatever, nevermind.
