SSMM 2005

Wahey!

Got home from work the other day and Kirsty starts hiding the post. A familar SSMM (Solo) entry envelope had arrived.

I’m in! Relieved that the 24 hour selectors who have the full skinny on my heart condition decided that I was fit to do it. Still on track for completing the first ten.

At the start of the year when I got back on the bike after the post-season rest I had an ambition to be in the top ten soloists overall and leading singlespeeder. Ambitious, yes, but I was only one lap behind the leaders last year. I thought that publishing a ‘I will kick arse’ manifesto in a Samuel L. Jackson “Fire & Vengeance” Pulp Fiction stylee would be incentive to work my butt off and train like hell to get fit. I was talked out of it in case my actions couldn’t match my bragging.

Given recent events I’ve reset my goals, and I think it’s fair to publish them.

Five laps.

Start, dusk, night, dawn, finish.

Anything else is a bonus. I also have an idea about riding a lap and stopping every five minutes and taking a photo, wherever that might be. With my lap times last year that would be about 20 photos.

This year I think we’re talking a few more.

Glad you are planning on being around for a long time, Nick.

A dogs dinner of links to stuff that we have arranged in an apparently random manner, though I assure you it made sense at the time.
