Where’d the weekend go?
Sore arse today after an 80 mile road ride starting off on damp roads led to serious chafing. It’s so bad that today I’ve commuted on fat tyres, my 24 hour saddle, and a suspension seatpost. After the skinny tyres and high pressure of the Pompino it’s like riding a sofa. Over 300 miles this month, which I don’t think is bad witha week off.
Notwithstanding problems in the nether regions it has been a good weekend. There was time on Friday to get down to Sideways Cycles to fondle and stoke the latest high end metalwork from Indy Fab, Maverick VooDoo and Spot. Mmmm. Stroke stroke.
It was embarrassing to find in store a 1995 copy of MTB World containing an old article of mine. My wife accused me of blatantly using the word Yikes! in print. I could only look sheepish and try to explain in defence that in 1995 that wasn’t unusual in the mountain bike press. It didn’t wash. I am still living it down. Accompanying said article was a well cropped photo which quite clearly showed that between 1993 and 1995 I aged about 10 years. The good news is that the photo looks like it could have been taken yesterday. If I went out and grew another goatee beard that is.
Saturday was gorgeous weather but horse commitments meant no chance to go out for a long ride. So the afternoon was usefully spent cutting flames out of Black 3M Scotchlite Black 3M Scotchlite and applying to the Spot. Matt black frame with gloss black flames that shine white under car headlights. It’s very nice, but has shown up how knackered the paint job is getting.

Mmm. Must save up for a new Spot…

Unfortunately Saturdays weather was not so good, so I spent the first two hours on Sunday riding into a headwind and fine drizzle. Riding the Pompino with peaked helmet and Camelbak meant that instead of being acknowledged by both roadies and MTBers I was cold-shouldered by both camps. So if that’s you living in Silverdale with the Marin, Yah Boo Sucks you miserable git!
Other good news this weekend is that a replacement for Clive The Impatient Chicken has arrived at our livery yard. Kiev is a Rhode Island Red, and her arrival has cheered up Satay, the resident cockerel, no-end. Lets’ hope this one will learn to get out of the way of the horse-beasties.
