Autobikography - updated

1968

Born.

1971

Red and blue tricycle. It’s front wheel drive.

1973

First chain driven tricycle. Learn to ride on two wheels, but seeing as only the right hand wheel has drive tend to go round in circles.

1975

Raleigh. One speed. Rod pull brakes.

1977

Cycling proficiency test.

1978

Too young for punk and jealous of all kids on Raleigh Tomahawks or Choppers.

1980

Wassell trials bike.

1982

10 speed racer. 24″ wheels.

1983

First trailer on the Tour of Mull.

1984

Racer loses drops and gets cast off Renthals.

1986

College.12 speed racer.

1989

Finish college. 12 speed tourer.

1990

First paycheque. 14 speed racer.

1991

Race road. It hurts. Borrowing mums mountain bike. Then buy a GT Karakoram.

1992

Race mountain bike. It hurts more.

1993

Lands End to John O’ Groats over 9 days. Race mountain bike again. Only faster.

1994

Dave Yates Swamp Donkey. Still racing. Only slower.

1995

Cross bike. Trailquest.

1996

Convert GT to singlespeed. Polaris. On a tandem. Then again. With a trailer. Singlespeed championships on a cross bike. Buy tandem for Xmas.

1997

Race tandem DH and XC. Buy BOB trailer. Tow it round Polaris. Dave Yates singlespeed - Hello Uncle Tufty. Finish 3 Peaks. Ace Race.

1998

Red Bull 24 hours. On singlespeed. Finally get a Raleigh Chopper for 30th. Spot singlespeed.

1999

Red Bull again. No new bikes this year. Bye Bye Uncle Tufty. Two would be greedy.

2000

Polaris. Red Bull. Outstock.

2001

Uncle Tufty is back. 700c wheels. Fixed Gear. At the other extreme full suspension Turner shocker. Marry and the wife buys her first singlespeed. Hello Honda. Bye Bye GT (given away), racer (no room), cross bike (bent), and tourer (nicked).

2002

Red Bull solo. Wife buys her second singlespeed. With gears. Kona 100 and a month of illness.

2003

Racing again and even managing quick. Hello fat boy slick Rocky Mountain Hammer circa 1993. Swamp Donkey stripped for respray.

2004

The solo year. Suspension and gears are the way to go. Hello Maverick ML-7, Fan.Bye Bye Stolen after 3 rides. Go back to one speed in a huff. Do rather well. Swamp Donkey still awaiting respray. Three Peaks again.
