I know what tags and posts on this website might have triggered a match in the twisted algorithms of the search engines. But will the Special Branch? When we live in a country which proposes long term holding of prisoners without trial under anti-terror legislation, and at the same time uses that legislation to arrest an 82 year old heckler of our dishonorable foreign secretary for his illegal war on Iraq maybe I should be more worried about that knock on the door.

Some jerk was posting ona forum today about running two rear sprockets with some gash home made spacer and asking what he could use to switchy between them and still get tension.

FFS!!

Either it's singlespeed or it's not.

And if it's not just go the whole hog and slap a full 9 speed block on the back, a handy thing for maintaining tension in any of them, and how about a handy handlebar control for switching between them on the move.

I love my singlespeeds. Heck, I have three and I'm not unknown to sneak a ride on my wifes. I'll admit it's totally impractical sometimes. Which is why I've got a Turner and a Yates.

But this gash faux-singlespeed reliving of pseudo-thirties shonky mechanisms choosing betweeen two impractical ratios is a half-way house too far.

Don't let me catch you. Or I'll beat you to death with your own chain tensioner.

Dave_A has got himself a long travel Orange instead of his one-speed. And me? Well the Turner has a new Pro-Pedal Fox shock to try out after the Alps 4R ate its seals. And I've just fitted MLC handlebars.

I nearly didn't make it to forty when my front tyre let go on the very first downhill. Think slippery and steep stone-slabbed pack-horse trail.

We had four hours of fun, including several photostops for Dan.

To top it all off, to celebrate a ride in Yorkshire we had Yorkshire Pudding for tea.

I haven't had so much fun on a ride in a while.

MLC = Mid Life Crisis
