Maverick

As a very brief Maverick owner I was surprised to hear on Saturday that since 17 January they had ceased trading. Surprised that such a newsworthy story hadn’t made it as an article on Singletrack. After all Singletrack has long had an association with Maverick and Paul Turner. The editor, Chipps, rode an early version, and at one time Maverick frames and forks were very much flabour du jour. You may even have seen Chipps’ outro about Paul Turner selling Maverick to SRAM in the toilets of an Indian curry house in Saddleworth. News is not just about the new and shiny stuff at the London Bike Show fellas.

Fan
Where are you now?*

Apparently Paul Turner has now bought the brand back and will continue to license his design. Maybe not to Klein this time, eh, Paul.

I for one wish him well.

* If anyone spots Fan on the usual suspect sites (ebay, Cash Convertors) please drop me a line. Our flirtation was all to brief and I never got to know her well.

Facebook sucks

October 2010

Facebook says, in a statement: “Facebook never shares personally identifiable information with third parties – advertisers are only given anonymised and aggregated data.”

The Guardian

16 January 2011

Now sharing your address and phone details with world + dog. Fuckers.

Update: 18 January 2011

The API has been hastily withdrawn.

We look forward to re-enabling this improved feature in the next few weeks.

Meaning, we’ll try and reintroduce it even more quietly than we did the first time.

Which means they’re still fuckers, just underhand fuckers.

What to do?

If you have to have Facebook review the information you have on your profile: facebook.com > profile > edit profile > contact information

Remember, you are not a customer. You are product. Their customer is the advertisers who pay them billions.
